Mental Health & The Growth In My Business

[su_dropcap style=”simple” size=”5″]F[/su_dropcap]inally! This has been months in the making. I finally decided to create my own space where I could just talk to you. I actually had this idea about a year ago, but as you know life happens and sometimes things get put on the back burner.

2018 has been the year of my becoming. It’s been that kind of year where everything that I have gone through in the past, good and bad, has finally cultivated into one of the best years I have had in my life. My brainchild “Droid Island”, has picked up great momentum and it’s really because, at the beginning of the year, I made a conscious decision to work on my mental health.

Earlier this year I went through a breakup. I was dating someone who struggled with mental health and seeing it manifest in the way that it did, gave me a new respect for mental health and got me thinking about my own. I realized that without getting your own house in order, your business can never grow.

I am sure you are aware of the saying, “When The Student Is Ready, The Teacher Will Appear.” I started to see a bunch of quotes on Instagram from an author named Daniel Chidiac and his book “Who Says You Can’t, You Do.” So I jumped on Amazon and ordered the book.

There were so many lessons that I got from the book that really opened up my eyes. One thing lead to the next and I just kept ploughing through books. With each book, came messages that were timely and really helped me get into the right frame of mind that I needed to be in.

I started to become more conscious of my energy, the people I associated with. I got clearer on who I wanted to become and subsequently, how I wanted to help people through my business. For the first time in my life, I began to see the direct correlation between my mental health and how it really affected me, the people I associate with and the work that I do.

My energy became more infectious and I have gotten closer to people in the last 6 months whereas previously I either didn’t speak to them or even knew who they were. When you start intentionally declaring what you want, the universe conspires to give it to you. That’s a lesson I picked up from the Alchemist by Paulo Coehlo.

Every day I wake up, prepare some tea, grab my books, sit on the porch and begin to read. I am always amazed that every day, I am reminded of how little I know and how much there is to learn in this world.

Every day I am reminded that if you work on bettering yourself, your mindset, your energy, that things will start to come your way. I have really started to feel that I know when things are for me and when things are not.

I always laugh when I hear people say I blew up quickly. I hear that so much, and chuckle because nobody has a clue where I have been and how far mentally I have come to even be here. It’s a huge reason why I have just wanted to start blogging so I can express myself. Allow people to get to know me, but also help those who have walked similar paths that I have and let them know there are ways to move forward positively.

Everything starts with getting mentally healthy first, we are consuming way too much garbage day in and day out. I’ve detoxed my social media feeds and have more business & positive content on my feeds. I listen to a lot more reggae & classical music and dialled back from Rap. I have incorporated podcasts into my daily routines because its the only medium that allows for passive consumption.

I have changed my circle of friends, and now connect more with a circle of influence, people who are walking similar paths and we can relate better to each other.

I don’t think there has been a time in my life where I have been this happy at all of the possibilities out there and I am truly excited to be alive. So moving forward through this blog, I will take you on a journey with me.

You will see my day to day affirmations, quotes that I am feeling, my ups & downs on this entrepreneurial journey, my random thoughts and I hope that we can learn from each other.
