The Dilemma Of Speaking Your Truth

In this day and age, I don’t think most of us realize just how much power we have, through our words and actions. It is only when situations arise and you sit back and think it over, you try to wrap your mind around how on earth have you reached here. If you have been following me for a little while now, you know that my angle has always been to teach or create discussions around technology and entrepreneurship. But there is a dilemma of speaking your truth that something that I need to consider.

My intentions are good. So I can always live with whatever feedback I get. I have written articles that have caused a stir and others that go unnoticed. It’s the articles that I write, where I could be talking about some key things I want entrepreneurs to know so that they can get ahead and then It comes to my attention that I have stepped on toes.

When this happens, I am always amazed at how companies/organizations/governments for whatever reason would rather people continue to stay reliant on them and not actually learn the necessary means so that they can take more control of their lives.

Teaching entrepreneurs about e-commerce, building an online business, smartphone tech, I would have never of thought I would of been in the position where a few companies have either reached out to meet me and see how they can control my messaging or just straight up trying to get me blacklisted from events or potential future business.

As I even think about recent events, I wonder who else is going through the same battles. Trying to better themselves and help others in the process and stepping on the wrong toes, with the potential for getting blacklisted and losing business.

For me, I know that one of my goals this year was to continue to build my own name and platforms, I wouldn’t push to work with companies. I hate being beholden or having to censor yourself lol. If you know me, you know I don’t play well with rules and limitations. I’m a habitual line stepper but so is every entrepreneur, that’s one of the characteristics you need to have if you ever want to make meaningful change.

This is the dilemma of speaking your truth, it can cost you. But my mission is simple, to talk & each about Technology and Entrepreneurship in the Caribbean through my own trials and tribulations.

So if you have found yourself in a situation like this, where you are faced with a decision that can cost you money or more but it goes against who you are and what you are trying to build. Just know that this is the Digital Age, it’s not the time and place where you can simply be silenced and put in a box that you cannot come out from.

Now is the time where you can get creative and build your brand & business without the support of the conglomerates. The challenge will now come down to your creativity and determination to build your success on your own merit.

It’s a long journey but as long as you are doing what makes you happy and your conscious is clear, your work continues to help others. Then you need to continue to step on toes, cross lines and continue to be that agent of change.

Its at times like this I remember the saying…”What does it profit a man, to gain the world and lose his soul?”

Continue to do the work you were put here to do…I will continue to as well.
